About

The George Town library was started back in the 1940s by the wife of the then governor of the Bahamas who sent down an assortment of books from their Nassau library and donated what was the old customs house as the new library.

The library is bursting at the seams with everything from children’s books to books on zoology and everything in between. Donated books are always welcome. If we already have a copy, we place it on our “for sale” shelf. You won’t find a better deal on a book anywhere.

The library is all-volunteer run and reliant on donations. We offer summer tutoring and arts & crafts. Our hours are tentatively 2:30PM – 4:30PM on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

If you find yourself downtown George Town stop by, check out a book, find some shade and enjoy a good read.
