This website was created by a non-profit volunteer group, The Friends of George Town Library, for the purpose of promoting the library, communicating electronically with library supporters, volunteers and the community. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Member’s Contact Information

We will collect your personal information for library membership purposes. This information may be used electronically, via telephone or in writing to manage the dues and membership status, communicate such information with you, and monitor which books are checked out by you or authorized family members.

Volunteer’s Contact Information

We will collect your personal information for library volunteer purposes. This information may be used electronically, via telephone or in writing communicate with you regarding volunteer opportunities, meetings and events.

Supporter’s Contact Information

We may collect supporter’s contact information to communicate with you regarding specific donations, fundraisers or other supporter related matters electronically, via telephone or in writing. Supporters who wish to remain anonymous should indicate as such and we will not disclose any support that we have received in connection to your personally identifiable data. Supporters who do not indicate they wish to remain anonymous may have their names listed in connection with donations or other support they have provided.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

Information collected via contact forms will be used to reply to requests, register for events and to communicate via various methods such as email newsletters, Facebook or WhatsApp messaging. You will be able to unsubscribe at any time and we will not release any of your personal information to 3rd parties without your express permission, unless required to do so by law.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

We will only share your personal or contact information by utilizing 3rd party tools such as, but not limited to Mailchimp to send email to you should you subscribe to our newsletters or other contact methods and f we are required by law to share your contact information with authorities.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
